Tennis Sweeps SLU and SIUE in Home Doubleheader

Mizzou tennis earned two dominant victories in its home doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 7. The Tigers defeated Saint Louis and SIUE 7-0.
Match One: Saint Louis
Missouri opened the day by securing the doubles point against Saint Louis. Sophomore Zoe Lazar and freshman Lara Quaglia finished first, sweeping their opponents 6-0. Sophomore Korina Roso and freshman Alex Ackman were next to finish, snagging a 6-2 win. Graduate student Mary Brumfield and senior Andrea Artimedi were up 5-3 when their match went unfinished.
The Tigers saw victories in all six singles matches. Sophomore Gian Octa was first to finish, dominating 6-0, 6-1. Ackman was next, sweeping her match 6-0, 6-0. Roso followed, winning 6-2, 6-1. Brumfield split her first two sets and battled through a tiebreaker to take the victory. Lazar followed suit and won her match 6-2, 6-0. Quaglia closed out singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win, earning her first career singles victory.
Match Two: SIUE
The Black and Gold carried the momentum into the second match, securing the doubles point for the second time. Brumfield and Octa were first to finish with a 6-1 win. Lazar and Quaglia finished shortly after, sweeping 6-0. Roso and Ackman were leading 5-1 when their match went unfinished.
Missouri finished the second match of the day in dominant fashion. Octa had another quick win in singles, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-2. Roso battled and won her match next, 6-4, 6-4. Ackman finished third, earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Brumfield's match went to a third-set tiebreaker, where she battled hard and won 10-7. Lazar and Quaglia each played to eight sets and won 8-5, 8-2, respectively.
UP NEXT
Mizzou heads to Illinois next weekend, Feb. 14-15, to take on DePaul and Illinois State. The Tigers will match up against DePaul first in Chicago at 3:30 p.m. CT on Feb. 14 before heading to Normal, Illinois, on Feb. 15, where they will play a doubleheader at 12:30 p.m. CT and 4 p.m. CT against Illinois State.
