
No. 17 Wrestling Bests No. 16 Oklahoma to Claim Senior Night Win

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 17 Mizzou wrestling surged past No. 16 Oklahoma, 23–14, on Thursday, Feb. 12, in a pivotal Big 12 showdown. The Tigers captured six individual wins and rattled off five straight to swing the momentum firmly in their favor. Missouri climbs to 12–7 (5–2 Big 12) with the victory, handing Oklahoma its fourth conference loss of the season at 10–5 (3–4 Big 12).
Oklahoma native No. 26 Gage Walker (133) picked up the Tigers' first win of the day over Oklahoma's Carter Schmidt, 8-6. No. 22 Josh Edmond (149) secures the victory in the 149 bout by a score of 4-2 over Hunter Hollingsworth, igniting the crowd on Senior Night. Columbia's own No. 30 Teague Travis (157) dominated his bout by a score of 14-4 at 157 pounds. The Redshirt senior picked up four takedowns and a reversal against Oklahoma's Layton Schneider to earn the technical fall.
Redshirt junior J Conway (165) picked up his fourth dual win at 165 pounds in a close decision, 8-6. No. 10 Cam Steed (174), coming off Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors, picked up a win over Trae Rios, 21-3. Redshirt freshman No. 3 Aeoden Sinclair (184) picked up five takedowns in 90 seconds, ending the bout in the first period by a score of 22-6.
MATCH NOTES
- With the win, the Tigers advance to 17-44 all-time against the Sooners, with the series sitting at 15-10 in Mizzou's favor during Head Coach Brian Smith's time at the helm.
- Associate Head Coach Kendric Maple faced off against his alma mater as a coach for the fifth time since joining the Tigers' staff, with Mizzou picking up the win in four out of the five meetings. Maple was a 2013 NCAA Champion while repping the Sooners before getting into coaching.
- Of the Tigers' six wins, three came with bonus points including back-to-back technical falls at 174 and 184.
- Edmond, the first senior to pick up a win on the evening, earned his 19th win of the season as he inches closer to his first 20-win season.
- Travis secured the win at 157 pounds by tech fall, marking his 10th bonus-point win of the season and ends 2-1 inside Hearnes Center this season.
- Steed continues to impress, earning his eighth bonus win of the season and fourth technical fall at 174 pounds.
- Sinclair exploded out of the gate, racking up seven takedowns in the first period alone to blitz his way to the 10th technical fall of his redshirt freshman season.
