COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou tennis wrapped up the second day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional Championship on Oct. 16, adding six wins to a 17-match total over two days.
The regional’s main draw started this morning where sophomore Alex Ackman remained undefeated, winning in straight sets. Freshman Danielle Chapman made her debut in the championship and was impressive, defeating Emerey Gross of Iowa in three sets.
Tomorrow in the round of 16, Ackman is scheduled to take on Oklahoma State’s Veronika Kliuch, while Chapman is set to face Katie Spencer (Nebraska).
In the C Draw, three Tigers claimed wins following losses in the qualifying draw on day one. Freshmen Leticia Bazán and Mariana Higuita Barraza defeated their competitors from Kansas and Iowa State, respectively, in straight sets. Finishing out the morning for Mizzou, fellow freshman Alba Salles Canudas secured the win over Tulsa’s Lilitha Sithenkosi Ndungane.
In doubles, Chapman and freshman Irina Anghel picked up a win over Massiva Boukirat and Jeselle Ante (Kansas State) to advance. In the round of 16, the duo battled but were unable to come away with the win over Meg McCarty and Nahyeong Cho (Kansas).
UP NEXT
The Tigers return for day three at the ITA Central Regional Championship on Saturday, Oct. 16, with matches resuming at 10:30 a.m. CT.
