COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou tennis finished day one of competition at the ITA Central Regional Championship with 11 wins on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The regional began with the singles qualifying draw where freshmen Leticia Bazan and Daria Budko, along with sophomore Alex Ackman won in straight sets against competitors from Kansas State, Arkansas State and Iowa, respectively. In the round of 32, Ackman earned her advancement with a win over Lilitha Sithenkosi Ndungane (Tulsa) in three sets. Budko joined Ackman, moving on to the round of 16, after defeating Marielou Baudouin (Missouri State) in straight sets.

Additionally, freshmen Alba Salles Canudas and Mariana Higuita Barraza earned wins in the qualifying consolation bracket over Hyejeong Ahn (Kansas) and Emma Dvorackova (Memphis), respectively.

In the evening, Mizzou moved into the round of 64 doubles matches and went undefeated. Junior Millie Skelton and freshman Evelyn Whiteside struck first, picking up a win against Hyejeong Agn and Caroline Manzi (Kansas). Freshmen Irina Anghel and Danielle Chapman defeated Marta Leon Jaume and Margaret Jaraczewski (Kansas State) to advance. Ackman and Higuita Barraza kept the momentum going with a dominant 8-1 win over Diana Smolinska and Lena Beuing (Kansas State). Salles Canudas and Budko finished out the day, earning a win over Miranda Noor and Jordane Dookie (Drake).

UP NEXT
The ITA Central Regional Championship picks back up tomorrow, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m. CT in Memphis, Tennessee. Day two will start with the singles qualifying draw round of 16, followed by the singles main draw and more doubles matches in the afternoon.
