
Swimming and Diving Faces No. 8/6 Louisville and Kentucky on Road Trip

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Swimming and diving will open competition in the new year with two duals in the Bluegrass State. Mizzou will begin their road trip against No. 8/6 Louisville in Ralph Wright Natatorium on Friday (Jan. 9) at 2 p.m. before traveling to Lexington to take on Kentucky in Lancaster Aquatic Center on Saturday (Jan. 10) at 10 a.m.
Live results will be available via Meet Mobile and DiveMeets against both opponents. Additionally, Saturday's meet against the Wildcats will be streamed live via SEC Network+.
The Tigers are coming off first place finishes at November's Mizzou Invitational. The men's squad won the midseason matchup with 1,633 points while the women's squad finished first with 1,726 points.
AGAINST NO. 8/6 LOUISVILLE
- Mizzou's men trail the Cardinals 7-1 all-time, while Louisville's women are undefeated against the Tigers holding a 6-0 record.
- The Tigers last faced Louisville on Jan. 3, 2025, at Mizzou Aquatic Center.
- At last year's matchup, the men's squad fell 107-193 to the Cardinals, and Mizzou's women dropped a 95-204 decision.
AGAINST KENTUCKY
- MU's men's squad holds an 8-4 series lead over the Wildcats, and the women's squad leads Kentucky 6-5 all time.
- Mizzou last competed against Kentucky on Nov. 7-8, 2019, in Lancaster Aquatic Center.
- Both squads proved victorious in the schools' last meeting with Mizzou's men winning 257-98 and the women scoring 240.5-112.5.
LAST TIME OUT: MIZZOU INVITATIONAL
- Darden Tate, Luke Nebrich, Ethan Vance and Francois Malherbe set a school record in the men's 200 free relay with a 1:15.64 performance and earned an NCAA qualifying standard.
- Nebrich broke the school record in the men's 50 free (18.75), and Matthew Mortenson set a new mark in the 400 IM (3:43.01).
- The men's 400 free relay (Quinlan Gould, Brady Johnson, Jan Zubik, Nebrich) posted 3:04.59 and qualified for NCAA standards; Mizzou women's 200 free relay (Zara Zallen, Francesca Smith, Paige Striley, Katie Kuehn) finished 1:29.16 with an NCAA cut.
- Collier Dyer won men's 1-meter diving (422.05), followed by Tanner Braunton (411.20) and Tommaso Zannella (338.70); on the women's side, Gabriela San Juan Carmona led 3-meter diving with 330.00.
- Nebrich won the men's 50 free (18.82) with an NCAA qualifying time while Smith topped the women's 50 free (22.49), followed by Kuehn (22.57).
- Gould claimed the men's 100 back (46.24), and Libby Bakker won the women's 100 back (53.07), both contributing key points in prelims and finals.
- On day two, San Juan Carmona scored 289.30 to win women's 1-meter diving, with Mia Henninger (287.65) and Megan Jolly (286.15) rounding out the podium. Dyer captured his second gold in men's 3-meter (425.65) ahead of Braunton (397.20) and Derek Colbert (334.30).
- Bakker secured her third individual win of the invite by taking the 200 back (1:55.45) adding to her 100 back (53.07) and relay wins.
- Nebrich won the men's 100 free (41.77 NCAA cut) and led the 400 free relay (Nebrich, Vance, Tate, Malherbe) to gold in 2:50.25; Zallen took gold in the women's 100 free (48.59 NCAA cut) with Smith close behind (48.87).
- In the 1650 free finals, Zoe Schneider hit an NCAA qualifying time (16:20.34) for second place, with Peyton Drexler in third (16:36.55). Matthew Mortenson placed second in the men's event in 15:17.76.
- Zubik (1:41.54) plus Matthew Judkins (1:42.84) scored NCAA standards in the 200 fly.
UP NEXT
After the road trip, the Tigers will return home for the Senior Day meet against Southern Illinois. The meet will begin at 10 a.m. in Mizzou Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 31.
