
Senior Day Sparks Sweep Over Salukis

The Tigers Swimming and Diving programs swept Southern Illinois with the men's team winning 195-97 and the women's team outscoring the Salukis 198-91
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving swept the Salukis of Southern Illinois on Senior Day as the men's squad outscored SIU 195-97 and the women's squad secured a 198-91 victory on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
This is the Tigers' second dual sweep this season, as the men's team improves to 2-3 and the women's team is 3-2.
Three senior swimmers picked up victories, as Jan Zubik and Karolina Bank each secured two wins on the afternoon. Zubik swept the fly events, picking up wins in the 100 and 200 fly with times of 46.60 and 1:42.02. Bank took home the gold for the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 59.39, as well as being part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. Paige Striley recorded a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a 52.99 time.
On the diving side, Gabriela San Juan Carmona picked up two wins, as she tallied a score of 300.75 on her one-meter dive and scored a 344.85 on her three-meter dive.
Both men's and women's relay squads dominated in the pool, securing gold in all relay events. The women's 200 medley relay squad of Annabelle Wentzel, Zara Zallen, Kylee Sullivan and Francesca Smith won with a time of 1:37.13, as the men's 200 medley relay of Quinlan Gould, Logan Ottke, Luke Nebrich and Francois Malherbe took first in 1:24.92. Zallen, Smith and Bank picked up another win with Libby Bakker in the women's 400 free relay, finishing in 3:16.45. On the men's side, Nebrich, Malherbe, Ethan Vance and Darden Tate won with a 2:53.24 win.
Tommaso Zannella earned a first-place finish in the one-meter dive with a score of 340.42, as the top three placements were all Tigers with Tanner Braunton in second (333.30) and Derek Colbert in third (291.67).
NOTABLE RESULTS
- Bakker took gold for the women in 100 free with a time of 49.64 while Nebrich placed first for 100 free with a 42.89 time.
- Gould secured a win in 200 back with a time of 1:42.48.
- Matthew Mortenson earns gold in 200 breast with a time of 1:57.34 and 200 IM with a 1:47.89 time.
- Mizzou takes first in both men's and women's 500 free with Zoe Schneider securing a 4:46.76 time and Sebastian Gonzalez-Barboza with a 4:29.98 time.
- Logan Ottke won the men's 100 breast with a time of 53.74.
- Maeve DeYoung scored gold in 200 fly with a 1:58.44.
- Smith and Nebrich earn first for the men and women in 50 free, with respective times of 22.63 and 19.14.
- Peyton Drexler took gold in 1000 free with a winning time of 9:58.54 while Conner Boatright also won 1000 free with a time of 9:19.49.
- The Black and Gold secured first in 200 free with Piper McNeil earning a time of 1:47.59 and Oliver Millan de Miguel with a time of 1:36.16.
UP NEXT
The Tigers head over to Rocky Top for the 2026 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, February 16-21 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Prelims will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by finals at 5:30 p.m., each day.
