
Women's Squad Leaves Kentucky with Win Over the Wildcats

Women win 180-120 while men lose 168.5-131.5.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri women's swimming and diving squad pushed past Kentucky to win a close matchup at Lancaster Aquatic Center Saturday morning. The men's squad narrowly lost to the Wildcats.
Mizzou's women won their match 180-120 while the men fell 168.5-131.5 in Lexington, Ky. The Tigers secured wins in 18 events with 11 of those wins coming from the women's squad.
With today's win, the women's team has evened their record against Kentucky at 6-6. The men's record now stands at a series lead of 8-5 over the Wildcats.
The women's squad dominated the freestyle races by securing first place finishes in all sprint free events. The women's 50 free podium was swept by Francesca Smith in first at 22.79 followed by Katie Kuehn in second (23.25) and Haiden Schoessel in third (23.30). Zara Zallen secured gold in both the women's 200 and 100 free races. She finished in 1:47.03 in the 200 and 48.90 in the 100.
On the men's side, Oliver Millán de Miguel picked up his first win as a Tiger in the men's 200 free. The Spain native, took first with a time of 1:37.15.
The Tigers stood out in the butterfly events, taking first and second in every race for the men and women. Maeve DeYoung and Kylee Sullivan repeated yesterday's finishes in the women's 200 fly with DeYoung in first at 1:59.75 and Sullivan in second with 2:00.30. Jan Zubik earned another first-place finish in the men's 200 fly with a 1:43.11 swim and was followed by Matthew Judkins in second at 1:44.65. The Tiger women swept the podium in the 100 fly finishing with Paige Striley in first (53.92), Sullivan in second (54.06) and Annabelle Wentzel in third (55.10). Zubik and Judkins repeated their finishes in the men's 100 fly with times of 47.04 and 47.30, respectively.
The MU women found success in relays at Kentucky. The women's 200 free relay squad of Zallen, Smith, Karolina Bank and Kuehn finished first with a time of 1:31.18. The women's 200 medley relay of Wentzel, Zallen, Sullivan and Smith also secured gold with a 1:37.75 time.
Both diving squads picked up more golds during the competition. Tommaso Zannella secured first in men's 3-meter diving with a 353.03 performance while Tanner Braunton won men's 1-meter diving putting up 348.38. Gabriela San Juan Carmona topped the women's 3-meter podium with a score of 343.65.
NOTABLE RESULTS
- Mizzou won both 100 back events against Kentucky. Libby Bakker secured gold on the women's side with a time of 53.67 while Quinlan Gould won in 46.41 for the men.
- Bank picked up a pair of wins in both women's breaststroke events. The senior won the 100 breast in 1:00.14 and the 200 breast in 2:11.86.
- Matthew Mortenson secured a win in the men's 200 breast with a time of 1:58.61.
UP NEXT
Mizzou returns home to take on Southern Illinois on Jan. 31 in Mizzou Aquatic Center. Swimming and diving will celebrate their graduating seniors by honoring them before the meet starts at 10 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
