Volleyball Sweeps Wichita State in Second Match of Mizzou Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou volleyball swept Wichita State 3-0 in its second match of the Mizzou Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026 in Columbia at Hearnes Center. The Tigers improved to 5-2 for the season. 

KEY PLAYERS 

  • Paige Felder and Grace O’Reilly notched nine kills each, both earning 11 points for Mizzou
  • Kimani Johnson tallied 17 total attacks and seven kills for the Tigers 
  • Piper Batie posted 10 assists in the first set and 11 total in her second match as a Tiger
  • Lauren Larkin recorded 8.5 points alongside five kills
  • The final kill of the match came from Lydia Stahley, marking her first career kill as a Tiger

SET ONE (Mizzou 25-19, Mizzou leads 1-0)

The Tigers and the Shockers exchanged points in the opening frame (2-2), with a kill from senior Grace O’Reilly (Springfield, Mo.), followed closely by sophomore Peige Felder (Parowan, Utah) with another kill (3-3). Back-to-back kills from fifth year Kimani Johnson (Southfield, Mich.) brought Mizzou (8-5) to a three-point lead. Impressive defense at the net from junior Lauren Larkin (St. George, Utah) held Wichita State to a 12-7 deficit.

Wichita State responded with a strong offensive effort, evening the score of the set to 14-14. Attacks from Freshman Ceylin Kuyan (Istanbul, Turkey), Larkin and Felder pulled the Tigers ahead 22-17.. A final kill from Felder rounded out the set for Mizzou, giving them the lead of the series.

SET TWO (Mizzou 25-13, Mizzou leads 2-0)

A series of serves and a trio of assists from Senior Sierra Dudley (Spartanburg, S.C.) gave the Tigers an early lead (5-0) at the start of the second set. A pair of blocks from Freshman Eva Smith (Durham, N.C.) pushed Missouri (11-6) to hold Wichita State. Late in the set, Mizzou went on a 6-0 run, holding Wichita State to 17-11. This momentum continued at the end of the set; a pair of aces from Senior Ainoah Cruz (Arecibo, Puerto Rico) led The Tigers to close out the set with a 25-13 victory.

SET THREE (Mizzou 25-18, Mizzou wins 3-0)

The third set began with the Tigers taking an early 5-2 lead; an ace from O'Reilly marked her first of the season. A series of attacks and a block from Missouri widened the gap to 14-8. A block from Eva Smith and Kimani Johnson posted points at the net to build on the already growing lead to 18-11.

A kill at the net from Freshman Millie Bauer (Springfield, Mo.) marked the second kill of her career as a Tiger. 20-13. A final dig from Cruz, and a kill from Freshman Lydia Stahley (Indianapolis, Ind.) brought it home for the Tigers to defeat the Shockers 3-0.

GAME NOTES

  • Missouri is now 6-5-1 against Wichita State all-time.
  • Tigers head coach Dawn Sullivan is now 171-73 all time and 62-35 at Mizzou.
  • Ainoah Cruz is only one dig short of a career milestone of 1,500 digs, at 1,499 after facing Wichita State.
  • The Tigers now have 40+ kills and 30+ assists in six consecutive matches, posting 40 kills and 38 assists.
  • Mizzou marks its fourth match with 40+ digs, tallying exactly 40 digs.
  • Grace O’Reilly and Paige Felder posted back-to-back matches with 10+ points.
