FIRST SET (26-24, Mizzou leads 1-0)
The first set saw back-and-forth action, with the largest lead being three, held by the Tigers when they went up 10-7 and 20-17. That lead dwindled to nothing, as the Red Wolves tied it at 20-20, scoring three-straight points on two Mizzou errors.
ASU would earn its second lead of the set late, as it earned five of six points, to go up 22-21. However, the Tigers would complete a mini comeback with three straight points to end the set – one service error, a block from Tyrah Ariail and Nina Mandovic, and a kill from Felder.
SECOND SET (16-25, Match Tied 1-1)
The second set was a different beast as the Tigers opened up with a significant deficit – going down 12-5 before a Mizzou timeout.
Not much would change as the set went on, as the Red Wolves would maintain that lead for the duration and eventually even the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET (25-19, Mizzou leads 2-1)
Mizzou found momentum again in the third, as it became more effective in its attacks, posting a hitting percentage of .306. That included 15 kills while limiting itself to four errors.
The Tigers went up early before the first break with a 15-10 score, and added to that, pushing it to an eight-point differential – 21-13. ASU would have a minor comeback, but in the end, MU claimed the set 25-19.
FOURTH SET (22-25, Match Tied 2-2)
In the fourth, the Red Wolves came out strong, keeping an early advantage through the first nine points – ASU led 5-4. That lead would flip-flop for the remainder of the set as it would be a race to the finish.
The Red Wolves would earn the last laugh in the set, flipping the score to 22-21 in their favor and then trading points before eventually scoring two straight to make it 25-22.
FIFTH SET (11-15, Arkansas State Wins 3-2)
In the first half of the set, the Tigers were taking control, going up 7-4 before ASU took a timeout.
That timeout changed everything, as the Red Wolves came out of that on a 6-1 scoring run to make it 8-10. From there, they would maintain the lead and grow it until they eventually won 15-11.
The deciding factor of the final set was the hitting percentage as Mizzou hit .167 and ASU had an above .300 average with .385.
