Edward Jones to facilitate workshops, mobile application, financial coaching for Mizzou student-athletes
COLUMBIA, Mo. – As part of its continued commitment to delivering best-in-class resources to its student-athletes both on and off the field, Mizzou Athletics has created an innovative financial education and empowerment program delivered through the guidance of Edward Jones.
Beginning this fall, student-athletes will have access to financial education programming focused on workshops using Edward Jones' Financial Fitness curriculum and one-on-one financial coaching, as well as a customized mobile application. The goal of the program is to support student-athletes in building knowledge and confidence of their short- and long-term financial goals.
"We are proud to give our student-athletes the financial tools they need in today's revenue sharing and Name, Image and Likeness era," University of Missouri Director of Athletics Laird Veatch said. "Financial literacy is a life skill that has benefits well beyond their time at Mizzou, and this is another example of our commitment to providing best-in-class resources to our student-athletes both on and off the field."
As part of the program, monthly workshops will be available to Mizzou student-athletes on topics that build upon each other and have been identified as important and relevant based on student-athlete feedback. Topics include "Money 101" and healthy financial habits, budgeting, how to talk about money, tax basics and investing basics. Once Mizzou student-athletes complete the educational prerequisites, they will unlock access to work in a one-on-one setting with a financial coach tailored to their individual needs.
"This program reflects our deep belief that financial education can change lives. By empowering Mizzou student-athletes with the tools to make confident financial decisions, we're helping them build stronger futures. It's part of our broader commitment to positively impact communities - one learner, one goal, one future at a time," said Andy Miedler, Edward Jones Chief Financial Officer, Mizzou alum, and Executive Sponsor of the Edward Jones Mizzou Alumni Group.
Through an Edward Jones and Goalsetter partnership, Mizzou student-athletes also will have access to a mobile-friendly financial literacy platform to strengthen their smart money habits.
"Mizzou and Edward Jones have a proud history of working together so students achieve success and reach their goals," University of Missouri President Mun Choi said. "This endeavor with Mizzou Athletics builds on our shared mission of service and purpose, while providing an innovative opportunity for student-athletes that sets us apart in the SEC and the nation."
Earlier this year, Edward Jones attained its goal of reaching one million learners through its Financial Fitness program, a mark originally set to be met by the end of 2025 as it strives to positively impact communities and society. For additional information on the milestone, visit THIS LINK.
