Tigers look ahead to next home match on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. against No. 12 Mississippi State.
Mizzou soccer dropped its first Southeastern Conference road match of the season, falling 1-0 to Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
The Tigers (4-5-1, 1-2-0 SEC) and the Wildcats (8-3-0, 2-1-0 SEC) battled through nearly 89 minutes of scoreless play before a Kentucky penalty kick provided the game-winner.
Mizzou created its first dangerous chance in the fifth minute when Mia Devrouax (Florissant, Mo.) fired a right-footed shot from 15 yards that the Wildcats' keeper saved.
The Tigers' defense kept Kentucky off the board early, blocking five first-half shots. Goalkeeper Kate Phillips (Fishers, Ind.) recorded three saves in the opening 45 minutes, including a crucial stop on a ninth-minute set piece.
In the second half, Brianna Buels (Indianapolis, Ind.) nearly broke the deadlock in the 65th minute on a header from a corner kick that forced another Kentucky save.
The Missouri back line, anchored by Mia Yang (Leawood, Kan.) and Morgan Meador (Ballwin, Mo.), held strong for much of the afternoon, keeping Kentucky scoreless from the run of play until the late penalty.
The Tigers finished the match with five shots and four corner kicks. Phillips added another save in the 74th minute, denying an attempt from inside the goal box, and finished with four overall.
