Mizzou soccer dropped its first road game of the season, 1-0, to No. 23 Saint Louis on Sunday at Robert R. Hermann Stadium in Saint Louis.
A goal by the Billikens in the fifth minute of the contest ended up being the difference. Missouri outshot Saint Louis in the final half of play and finished with more corner kicks during the game, both by a 5-4 margin.
Saint Louis found the back of the net, taking an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Just four minutes later, Emily Derucki received a pass from a cross and put a shot on goal but was stopped by the Billiken goalkeeper.
Kate Phillips made her third save of the half in the 31st minute, where the junior went over the top of a Saint Louis forward after a shot attempt and snagged the ball. She finished the game with four saves.
In the 73rd minute, Keegan Good was able to drive the ball into the middle of the penalty area and get a shot off from about 13 yards but was blocked.
With just under four minutes to go, Good got a cross off to the left corner of the goal box, where Emily Derucki was able to fire a shot but was wide left.
The Tigers' offense started churning in the final minute, but the team was unable to find the back of the net. Off a corner kick, the ball found Ava Lamothe who got fired the final shot attempt of the game with just 48 seconds left but was blocked by a Billiken for the third time of the evening.
