University of Missouri men's golf begins its quest for a conference championship on Wednesday morning, opening play at the SEC Championship.
TOURNAMENT INFO
The 2025 SEC Championship begins Wednesday morning with the first of three days of stroke play. Tee times begin at 7 a.m. CT at the Sea Island Golf Club.
After three days and 54 holes of stroke play, the top eight teams in the standings advance to match play, with the quarterfinals and semifinals set for Saturday, April 26 and the championship slated for Sunday, April 27. Sunday's title bout is also set to air live on SEC Network, and Saturday's semifinal on SEC Network+.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Rated No. 1 in the U.S. among the "World's 50 Best Golf Hotels" by Golf Digest Index, Sea Island Golf Club offers three exceptional 18-hole championship courses. The Seaside Course, home to the PGA TOUR's McGladrey Classic, is a links course graced by majestic ocean vistas in the tradition of St. Andrews. The par 70 course measures 7,005 yards in length.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
The 16-team field features the top three teams in the nation, six in the top 10 and 10 in the top 20.
TIGERS AT THE SEC CHAMPIONSHIP
Set to compete in their 12th SEC Championship since joining the conference in 2012 and eighth since the league moved to a combined stroke play and match play championship, the Tigers have advanced to the quarterfinals three times, including two of the last three years (2017, 2022 and 2023).
2024-25 SEASON RECAP
Freshman Trent Mierl leads the Tigers with a 72.37 stroke average in 10 tournaments played this season, followed by junior Virgilio Paz at 72.76, Veikka Viskari at 73.58 and Mattias Varjun at 73.85.
Mizzou has won one tournament during the 2024-25 campaign, winning the Tiger Intercollegiate, with Varjun also claiming the individual crown. Overall, MU golfers have placed in the top 10 on 10 occasions, led by Trent Mierl a team-best three times.
