Baton Rouge, La.– No. 58-ranked University of Missouri tennis continued its weekend away with a doubleheader, dropping a match 4-0 to No. 6 LSU and defeating Southeastern Louisiana 4-0 on Sunday, March 30. Mizzou is now 12-10 and 2-9 in Southeastern Conference matches, while LSU is 18-4 and 8-3 in SEC play. SLU is now 10-5 and 2-3 in the Southland Conference.
Match One: LSU
Starting in doubles play, Missouri went down 1-0, losing at No. 2 and 3, 6-0 and 6-0, respectively. Junior Andrea Artimedi and freshman Korina Roso fought hard at No. 1 and were tied 2-2 before the match went unfinished.
In singles, graduate student Lailaa Bashir fought on court one against the No. 50-ranked singles player in the country before the match was abandoned, 5-7, 0-1. Roso, who was up 6-4, 1-2, and classmate Gian Octa, 2-6, 1-4, went unfinished on courts three and four.
Match Two: Southeastern Louisiana
Missouri started its second match with a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point over Southeastern Louisiana. Artimedi and Octa secured victory first, 6-1 in doubles. Senior Mary Brumfield and Roso won on court one to clinch the doubles point.
Roso continued the momentum during singles on court two, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-1. On courts one and three, Bashir and freshman Zoe Lazar won their matches 6-2, 6-4, and 6-1, 6-1. All other courts were left unfinished, but the Tigers had leads in all of them.
Head Coach Bianca Turati
"Unfortunately, we had to pull out a few players due to sickness today. We competed hard in singles against LSU. We won against SELU even though the conditions were tough to play in, and it was very hot and humid. The team did well, though, pulling out the win after a long day."
