Tennis Claims Another Doubleheader Sweep

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri tennis defeated both Lindenwood 4-0 and Western Illinois (score) on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Tigers moved to 9-1 (will change to 8-2 if they lose to Illinois) while LU fell to 1-4 and WIU 4-5 (will change if they beat miz).
Match One: Lindenwood
The Tigers started off the day hot, earning the first point by winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Junior Andrea Artimedi and graduate student Lailaa Bashir won the first set on court two, 6-0. To win the point was the freshman duo of Gian Octa and Sarah Hartel on court three, 6-1.
Mizzou was able to secure the win by winning three of the singles matches. Finishing first was Octa on court three, 6-1, 6-0, and then following close behind was Bashir on court one, 6-1, 6-0. Artimedi was on court two, 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the overall match. Senior Sophia McLellan, saw action for the first time this season, losing the first set, 3-6, but left the second set 3-3 as the match went unfinished.
Match Two: Western Illinois
Mizzou earned the second doubles point of the day, with Artimedi and Bashir on court two finishing first, 6-1. To secure the doubles point was freshman Korina Roso and senior Inah Canete on court one, 6-2.
Moving onto singles, Artimedi won in straight sets on court two, 6-1, 6-1. Securing a win on court three was Roso, 6-3, 6-1. To clinch the doubleheader sweep was Canete on court one, 6-3, 6-4. Hartel started off hot, winning her first set on court four going 6-0, before going unfinished with the second set tied 5-5.

The Tigers start Southeastern Conference action, hosting #21 Vanderbilt on Sunday, Feb. 23 at noon CT inside Green Tennis Center.
