Tigers break program record with 19th consecutive sellout.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou running backs Jamal Roberts and Ahmad Hardy both rushed for more than 100 yards, but it wasn't enough to offset No. 3 Texas A&M's balanced attack as the Aggies pulled away for a 38-17 win at sold-out Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Roberts ran 17 times for 110 yards and a touchdown, while Hardy had 13 carries for 109 yards and a score, putting him over 1,000 yards for the season at 1,046.
The No. 19 Tigers fell to 6-3 and 2-3 in Southeastern Conference play, while Texas A&M improved to 9-0 and 6-0 in the SEC.
With 57,321 on hand, Mizzou eclipsed the program record for consecutive sellouts with its 19th straight home capacity crowd.
Leading 14-0 at halftime, Texas A&M pushed its lead to 21-0 on the Aggies' first possession of the second half, scoring on a screen pass from Marcel Reed to KC Conception, who broke a tackle and scooted 48 yards to the end zone. Mizzou's DaMarion Fowlkes jump-started the Tigers with a 55-yard kickoff return and then the running of Roberts got Mizzou on the scoreboard. From the A&M 21-yard line, Roberts carried for gains of 9 and 8 yards, then bulled his way 4 yards into the end zone to make the score 21-7 with 6:50 left in the third quarter.
It looked like MU had then forced a three-and-out, but on fourth down Aggies upback Dalton Brooks took a direct snap and ran around the right end for 48 yards to the MU 18-yard line. Randy Bond later kicked a 32-yard field goal to widen the A&M advantage to 24-7. Prior to Brooks' run the Aggies had just 46 yards rushing.
Missouri turned an Aggie fumble forced by Mose Phillips III and recovered by Marvin Burks Jr. into a 49-yard Oliver Robbins field goal, his first as a Tiger. But A&M got the ball back and Rueben Owens II, who rushed 13 times for 102 yards, broke free for a 57-yard touchdown run that made the score 31-10.
Hardy came right back with a 45-yard TD run of his own, but on A&M's next possession Owens added a 1-yard TD run for A&M's final points.
Missouri's best first-half scoring chance came early in the second quarter, when Roberts ripped off runs of five, six and 18 yards to get the ball to midfield and back-to-back Aggies holding penalties moved the Tigers to the A&M 32-yard line. Facing fourth-and-10 at the 32, Robbins tried a 50-yard field goal attempt that was short, but the Aggies were called for offsides. With fourth-and-five, Mizzou went for it but Matt Zollers' slant pass for Donovan Olugbode fell incomplete to end the threat.
Zollers, in his Missouri starting debut, completed 7 of 22 passes for 77 yards, while Reed was 20 of 29 for 221 yards and two touchdowns.
The MU defense, which held the Aggies to 148 total yards in the first half, got the ball back on the next possession, with a third-down sack by Darris Smith forcing a punt. With third-and-10 at the MU 42, Aggie linebacker Daymion Sanford blitzed Zollers and batted the ball into the hands of Brooks who returned the ball 26 yards to the MU two-yard line. Two plays later, EJ Smith ran into the endzone for a touchdown that gave A&M a 14-0 halftime lead.
