Men’s Basketball Cruises Past South Dakota, 102-68

The Mizzou men's basketball team cruised to a 102-68 victory over South Dakota after a commanding second half. The Tigers continue their perfect season and push their record to 6-0, while the Coyotes fall to 3-3.
MIZZOU LEADERS
Six Tigers scored double-digits in Mizzou's win. Senior Mark Mitchell led Mizzou with 22 points on 7-of-12 from the field to go along with five rebounds. Senior Jevon Porter tallied his first double-double of the year, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting.
Graduate student Jacob Crews added 15 points with a 3-of-5 clip from beyond the arc to go along with two steals. Sebastian Mack tallied 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while junior Anthony Robinson II notched 11 points and a team-high six assists.
Graduate student Jayden Stone totaled 12 points, extending his streak of double-digit scoring in every game this season, while also contributing six rebounds and two steals.
GAME RECAP
The Tigers and Coyotes traded baskets early in the contest, until Mitchell hammered home a two-handed dunk to shift momentum. Moments later, Stone drilled a 3-pointer and Nicholas Randall followed with a slam on the next possession to give Mizzou a 20-10 advantage as the quarter hit its stride.
South Dakota fought back with an 8-0 run, clawing their way back into the game and grabbing their first lead, 26-25, just over halfway through the period.
Mizzou answered with a pair of six-point runs, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers from Robinson and Crews to help the Tigers regain the lead. A Robinson layup at the buzzer gave Mizzou a 53-42 advantage at the break, their largest lead of the half.
The Tigers opened the second period on a 12-4 run, fueled by seven points from Mitchell, to seize control and stretch the margin to 19 less than five minutes into the half.
Entering the final 10 minutes, Mizzou continued to build on their lead. Porter fought inside for an and-1, followed by a Stone fast break slam to ignite a 14-0 run for the Tigers as they pushed their lead to 83-54.
TEAM STATS
Mizzou shot 64.3 percent from the field in the winning effort with a 6-of-11 clip (54.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Tigers scored 24 points off turnovers and worked the Cougars in the paint, outscoring them 56-24.
South Dakota made 39.7 percent of its attempts and were held to 10-of-29 (34.5 percent) from 3-point range.
