Missouri returns to Walton Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
Mizzou soccer dropped its match against LSU, 1-0, on Thursday evening at LSU Soccer Stadium.
Missouri (4-7-1, 1-4-0 SEC) battled throughout the night and generated quality scoring chances, recording six shots with two on target from Mia Devrouax (Florissant, Mo.) and Emily Derucki (Wildwood, Mo.). LSU's Tigers improved to 8-3-0 (3-2-0 SEC) after breaking through in the second half following a scoreless opening 45 minutes.
Kate Phillips (Fishers, Ind.) opened the first half with a trio of saves to keep a clean sheet for Mizzou. The junior's first save came in the 23rd minute after a shot from about 18 yards out was directed toward the middle-left of the net and stopped, with her next coming eight minutes later from a redirect on a free kick.
Mizzou responded with a strong stretch in the second half, nearly pushing ahead in the 59th minute when Devrouax fired an on-target shot that forced a save. However, LSU pushed ahead in the 74th minute.
Missouri also earned four corner kicks in the final 25 minutes, highlighted by attempts from Derucki in the 81st and 89th minutes that tested the keeper.
Phillips recorded six saves on the night, marking her eighth game this season holding the opposing team to one or fewer goals and ninth multi-save performance of the season.
