Two Tigers finished in the top 10 at the Moraine Intercollegiate as the Mizzou men's golf team placed third overall of 14 schools in Ohio.
Mizzou finished with a team score of 836 (-16) over the three rounds. Xavier won the tournament with a score of 832, while the Tigers finished just one stroke behind the nation's eighth-ranked team in Illinois, who scored an 835 to finish second.
Overall, Mizzou's total of 836 marks the 11th-best 54-hole score in school history and lowest since carding an 830 at the National Invitational Tournament during the 2023-24 campaign.
Overall, a good weekend for our guys, said Mizzou head coach Glen Millican. Two Tigers in the top 10 along with Bradley inside the top 15 put us in contention and gave us a chance.
Junior Veikka Viskari and sophomore Trent Mierl led the way for Mizzou, finishing in a tie for seventh place at -6. Viskari (62-72-73) rode a strong first round – where he tallied a career-best 62 – to post his second top-10 finish of the season. The junior tallied 15 birdies over 54 holes as he has led the Tigers or finished for the team lead in all four tournaments this season.
Mierl (69-68-70) recorded his third-straight round under par to match Viskari with the team lead. It marked the second time in his career that he finished in the red in all three rounds during a tournament as he collected 12 birdies against just six bogeys (only two in the final 35 holes).
It was a great to have a strong finish this week, Mierl said. I stayed really patient and stuck to my process the whole tournament, which helped a ton. It was great to see the team play well and be in contention the whole tournament. Looking forward to carrying the momentum for the next event at The Clerico in Tulsa. MIZ!
Junior Bradley Mulder also finished in the top 15 for his best tournament in four tries as a Tiger. Mulder placed 13th overall with a three-round score of -4 (66-69-74) as he tallied 13 birdies for the best Division I finish early in his Mizzou tenure.
Rounding out the scores for Mizzou were senior Virgilio Paz in 38th place at +2 (72-70-73) and freshman Reese Roberts in 55th at +7 (76-71-73).
The Tigers now turn their attention toward the final tournament of the fall campaign, competing at The Clerico, beginning on Monday, October 27.
