Missouri’s Kate Phillip’s recorded six saves on the night, tied for her second most this season.
Mizzou soccer dropped its match against Vanderbilt, 2-0, on Friday evening at Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Complex in Nashville.
Missouri (4-9-1, 1-6-0 SEC) battled throughout the night but was unable to overcome an early pair of goals from Vanderbilt (10-3-1, 4-2-1 SEC).
Despite four saves from Kate Phillips (Fishers, Ind.) in the first half, the Commodores capitalized twice in the 12th and 20th minutes to take a 2-0 lead that held through the final whistle.
The Tigers' first on-target attempt of the night came in the 28th minute when Hailey Chambliss (Eureka, Mo.) fired a left-footed shot from just over 20 yards out that was stopped in the bottom-left corner. Moments later, Emily Derucki (Wildwood, Mo.) connected on a cross to Brianna Buels (Indianapolis, Ind.) for a shot just outside the box that missed narrowly wide to the left.
Each side held firm in the second half as Mizzou's defense limited Vanderbilt's looks on frame. Phillips finished with six saves, tied for her second most this season, including two key stops in the final frame to keep the margin within reach.
Missouri's final opportunity came in the 88th minute from Olivia Chianelli (Arlington Heights, Ill.), whose right-footed strike from distance sailed just over the crossbar.
