COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 23 University of Missouri wrestling topped No. 20 West Virginia, 22-16, for its first ranked win of the season inside Mizzou Arena Sunday. A trio of victories gifted the Tigers (5-7, 4-1 Big 12) their third Big 12 win in a row over the Mountaineers (8-5, 2-4 Big 12).

The match got off to a fiery start when freshman Gage Walker got out to an early lead over Jett Strickenberger, who is ranked No. 14 by Intermat at 125 pounds entering today. Although Strickenberger came out with a tight decision, 7-6, the Tigers would go on to take each of the next four bouts. Redshirt sophomore Kade Moore's pin of Tommy Maddox at 133 put Mizzou on the board. After redshirt junior Josh Edmond picked up a 5-2 decision over Jordan Titus at 141, redshirt junior Logan Gioffre came back from down 8-2 to defeat Sam Hillegas and redshirt sophomore James Conway earned a major decision over Sasha Gavronsky.

Coming out of the break with a 16-2 advantage after a WVU unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, redshirt sophomore Cam Steed took an early lead over Peyton Hall before Hall ultimately took the 10-8 decision. The Mountaineers took bouts at 174, 184 and 197 to even the match at 16 apiece. At 285, redshirt freshman Jarrett Stoner and Michael Wolfgram were tied 4-4, before Stoner took the win by injury default. 

MATCH NOTES

• Missouri improved to 5-0 all-time against West Virginia, outsourcing the Mountaineers 141-56 across the four series wins.
• At 125, Walker has wrestled three ranked wrestlers to one-point decisions this season.
• Moore's fall marks his second consecutive dual win after picking up a major decision on Wednesday and a fall today. The redshirt sophomore secured his fifth fall in six matches as seven of his nine victories this season have garnered bonus points. 
• Gioffre returned at 149 pounds, seeing his first action since the Soldier Salute on December 29 at 157 pounds. The redshirt junior had not competed at 149 since November.
• At 157 pounds, Conway picked up bonus points for the first time since the match against Binghamton at Collegiate Duals. The major decision bumped his bonus rate to 22%.
• Stoner's win at 285 pounds marked his second dual-clinching victory of the season following his decision over Utah Valley's Jack Forbes.
