COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri tennis wrapped up the final day of the FIU Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 12 in Miami. The Tigers totaled 10 wins through three days of competition against FIU, Florida Atlantic, DePaul and Houston.
Kicking off day three with doubles play, Mizzou picked up a pair of wins. Senior Inah Canete and freshman Korina Roso defeated Nuutinen and Krokhotina of Houston. Senior Mary Brumfield and junior Andrea Artimedi followed with a win over Sepa and Schouten (Houston).
Roso topped Sechi of DePaul in straight sets in singles to keep the momentum going, while Canete secured a ranked win over No. 80 Khairutdinova (FIU), 7-5, 6-2. Graduate student Lailaa Bashir added another singles victory over Silna of Florida Atlantic, fighting through three sets to secure the win.
"Coming on a training trip all together in Miami was a great way to start the year on a positive note," said head coach Bianca Turati. "The group had a chance to spend some good time together and bond. We also played a good amount of matches and got back on the court for some high-level competition. It was nice to have Mary Brumfield back on the court after such a long time and see our new freshman, Zoe Lazar, on the court for the first time. We had some very good wins these past three days. Looking ahead, we know what we need to work on and are excited about our home opener next Sunday."
