
Track and Field Opens SEC Outdoor Championships With Six Top-Eight Finishers

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Missouri track and field opened its postseason slate with six top-eight placements the first day of the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday on Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida. The Tigers women's crew finished the day tied for sixth with eight team points, while wrapping up the day tied for seventh place on the men's side with six team points.
In the hammer throw, both the men's and women's teams opened up with a top-eight placement. Sam Innes launched a season-best 62.31m throw that ranked sixth as he earned his second consecutive top-eight finish at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Petra Gombas locked up her first top-eight mark at the SEC Outdoor Championships, as her personal-best 57.91m toss garnered a seventh-place result.
The javelin throw saw a trio of Tigers finish among the top eight competitors. The women boasted a pair of competitors who earned points, as Erin Zimmerman claimed the best conference championship finish of her career, taking fourth with a personal-best 52.94m throw that bumped her to fourth in Missouri history. Skylar Ciccolini followed suit with an eighth-place finish in her first SEC appearance since 2021.
In his first appearance at the SEC Outdoor Championships, Callan Saldutto eclipsed the 70-meter mark for the first time this season, scoring a 70.52m throw that moved him up to the sixth-best javelin throw in program history and secured an eighth-place finish.
Missouri's distance contingent also saw success in the first day of action. Kelsey Schweizer qualified for the women's 800m final with a personal-best 2:05.16 mark that secured an at-large berth and improved her standing in program history as the fourth-best 800m mark in program history. In the men's 10,000m, Blake Morris took seventh with a 30:27.45 time which made him Missouri's first top-eight finisher in the event at the SEC Championships since Ollie Lockley accomplished the feat at the 2017 SEC meet.
In the decathlon, Emanuele Bellanova had a promising first day of competition, where he sits in seventh place with 3620 total points. His best finishes of the day included a runner-up long jump mark of 7.05m and a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 100m and high jump.
