
Andre's Triple Jump Gold Medal Caps Final Day of SEC Outdoor Championships

GAINSEVILLE, Fla. — Euphenie Andre saved the best for last in the women's triple jump, securing a gold medal in the event as University of Missouri track and field concluded the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday on Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida. Overall, the Tigers wrapped up conference championship weekend with 16 competitors ranked among the top-eight finishers in their respective events.
Andre, a two-time All-American in the women's triple jump, earned her first SEC medal on the final attempt of the evening, coming within a tenth of a meter of her personal best to top the podium with a 13.32m mark. Her jump was the 12th-best in the country this season and a season-best leap.
In addition to Andre's top placement, Mizzou got off to a hot start to the day with the men's discus squad claiming half of the top-eight positions. Mitch Weber earned MU's first medal of the weekend and the third of his career, securing a bronze medal with a 59.85m mark to lead the squad.
Behind him, Skylar Coffey secured his second SEC discus placement, securing a career-best fifth place finish with a 55.48m toss, while Rece Rowan collected his fourth consecutive top-eight finish in the event by taking sixth with a 54.89m throw. Tarique George rounded out the discus crew in seventh place at his first SEC Championships meet, hitting 54.74m.
In the middle distance finals, Missouri had a pair of strong showings from Kelsey Schweizer in the women's 800m and Davis Helmerich in the men's 1500m. For Schweizer, she earned her first outdoor 800m placement at the SEC meet, posting a personal-best 2:03.93 to finish sixth and earn the second-best mark in program history. Helmerich claimed his best SEC placement in the 1500m, scoring a season-best 3:44.07 time to finish fifth.
In the standings, Missouri wrapped up the weekend with 33 team points on the men's side to take 12th while the women finished 13th with 21 team points.
UP NEXT
Missouri will have select competitors advance to the NCAA West Region Preliminary Round, hosted by Arkansas from May 22-25 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Competitors will receive a berth to the competition if they are ranked among the top 48 marks in the region in a given event.
