
Track and Field Closes First Day Of Bryan Clay Invitational With Four Program Top-10 Marks

AZUSA, Calif. — University of Missouri track and field opened its weekend in southern California on Thursday with four program top-10 marks set between the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, California, and the Pacific Coast Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State in Long Beach, California.
In one of the nation's biggest middle- and long-distance track events, three distance runners moved up in Missouri's program all-time top-10 list. In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Kaia Downs gained two spots up to eighth all-time by breaking her previous personal best by eight seconds with a 10:46.04 mark. Later in the night, Mikayla Reed set her second personal best in as many weekends in the women's 10,000m, improving her mark by over 30 seconds with a 34:12.97 time that sits eighth in program history.
On the men's side, Austin Popplewell rounded out the night with a fifth-place finish in the men's 10,000m, crossing the line in 29:30.91 for a mark that ranks eighth all-time in program history.
Missouri's field competitors had a successful day at the Pacific Coast Invitational, picking up a trio of top-five finishes across the first day of competition. Mitch Weber continued his dazzling start to the 2024 outdoor campaign, placing third in the men's discus throw with a 59.40m mark. Skylar Coffey followed close behind in fifth place with a 57.34m throw that set a personal best and elevated him to eighth all-time in Missouri track and field history.
Emily Offenheiser rounded out a strong day in the field for the Tigers, taking a bronze medal finish in the women's shot put with a 15.69m toss that came within inches of her personal best.

The Tigers continue their three-day stay in southern California on Friday, April 12, as middle distance action takes place at the Bryan Clay Invitational and sprints and field events take place at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State.
