BLACKSBURG, Va. – No. 8 ranked University of Missouri wrestling suffered its first loss of the season to No. 7 Virginia Tech, 23-10, on Friday, Nov. 15. Mizzou moves to 1-1 on the early season, while the Hokies are now 2-0.
Mizzou saw three close losses by decision at 125, 133 and 141 to start the night down 9-0. Redshirt junior Logan Gioffre battled hard against Virginia Tech's No. 1 ranked 149-pounder Caleb Henson and returning National Champion but could not come away with the win. Losing by major decision at 157 pounds, the Tigers went into the break down 17-0.
Getting Missouri going, redshirt sophomore Cam Steed picked up an 8-1 win by decision at 165 pounds. At 174 pounds, senior Keegan O'Toole continues his bonus streak, winning by a major decision, 13-5. Keeping the momentum going, redshirt junior Colton Hawks earned an upset win over No. 5 TJ Stewart Jr. at 184. True freshman Aeoden Sinclair battled until the very end against No. 13 Andy Smith but could not secure the last-second takedown to tie the bout. Dropping the final matchup at 285, the Tigers dropped the road contest 23-10.
