The gymnastics team to host quad meet, wrestling brings in No. 11 Cornell for event
COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Athletics is proud to announce the return of "Beauty and the Beast" on Jan. 3, 2025, at Mizzou Arena.
"Beauty and the Beast" is an electric event where Mizzou's gymnastics and wrestling programs compete simultaneously. The Tigers' gymnastics program will host Ball State, Illinois State and Southeast Missouri State for its season-opening quad meet, while the wrestling team welcomes No. 11 Cornell to Columbia.
"Beauty and the Beast" is included in season ticket plans for both the wrestling and gymnastics programs. A single-meet ticket can also be purchased here for $15 or by calling 1-800-CAT-PAWS.
"We are thrilled to partner with Tiger Style wrestling and bring Beauty and the Beast back," head coach Shannon Welker said. "This is a one-of-a-kind event that has a rich history within Mizzou Athletics. This will also be the first time Tigers fans will get the chance to see our programs compete in the regular season at home this year, so we are excited to welcome a passionate crowd."
"I'm excited to work with Coach Welker and gymnastics to bring back Beauty and the Beast," wrestling head coach Brian Smith said. "It is a special event that the fans of both programs truly enjoy. We will have two top-ranked teams competing with Cornell coming in and we look forward to packing Mizzou Arena."
The last time these two programs competed alongside each other came on Jan. 19, 2019, when Mizzou wrestling took on Central Michigan, and Mizzou gymnastics competed against Auburn.
Wrestling is coming off a 2023-24 season where it tied for 11th at the NCAA Championship in Kansas City and saw three All-Americans on the podium. Tiger Style's first home dual of the season will welcome the 11th-ranked Big Red into Mizzou Arena.
Ahead of the 2025 campaign, Mizzou gymnastics coach Shannon Welker's 12th season leading the program, the Tigers landed four transfers and brought in a star-studded freshman class of five. In addition, two-time All-American and three-time All-Southeastern Conference gymnast Helen Hu has returned to the roster and will use her final year of eligibility for the upcoming campaign. MU returns 12 members of the 2024 squad that ended its season in the NCAA Regional Final.
