COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri cross country coach Lindsey Anderson resigned her position to take a job as the head coach in waiting at her alma mater, Weber State, Head Coach Brett Halter announced.
Assistant coach Kyle Levermore, who joined Mizzou in June 2023, will assume additional responsibilities coaching the Tigers distance and cross-country runners. Halter will continue to serve as the head coach of both the cross country and track and field programs.
"We are thrilled for Lindsey to have an opportunity to return to her alma mater and thank her for all she did for our program over the last year," Halter said. "Our cross country and distance groups are vital parts of our program and Kyle is an outstanding coach in his own right. He has proven to be an excellent addition to our coaching staff and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish adding some additional responsibility with our cross country and distance runners this season and beyond."
Anderson, who was entering her second season with the program, also mentored Mizzou's middle distance and distance runners. This past season, she helped guide Marquette Hanson to an NCAA Championship appearance, a first for a Tigers harrier since 2019. Drew Rogers earned Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team honors and won the 5,000m race at the USATF U20 National Championships.
"I am very sad to say goodbye to such an incredible group of athletes, coaches, and administrators here at Mizzou," Anderson said. "This past year has been one I will cherish forever. As a coach you are constantly put in situations where your heart is in two places at once. This is no different for me. While my heart breaks to say goodbye, I am also very excited for the opportunity at Weber State, the place where my story began. The Mizzou Cross-Country team has a lot of momentum right now and Coach Levermore will do an amazing job this team! I can't wait to see what the future has in store for the Mizzou Cross-Country and Track and Field team! M-I-Z!!!"
Anderson is a Big Sky Conference Hall of Famer and 2008 Olympian who excelled for Weber State from 2003-07. She was a nine-time conference champion in multiple distance events. In 2007, she became the first runner in conference history to win the steeplechase, 5000m and 10,000m at the same championship meet.
