COLUMBIA, Mo. – Reigning SEC Player of the Week Fox Leum struck again with his third consecutive three-RBI performance to spark University of Missouri baseball to a 14-6 win over Kansas in front of a capacity crowd at Taylor Stadium on Wednesday night.
Mizzou (18-7) jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings as Leum capped a three-run first with a two-RBI single. The designated hitter followed with a solo home run to straightaway center field to punctuate a four-run second inning and send the Tiger faithful into an uproar.
The Tigers racked up 12 hits to pour on their 14 runs. Nander De Sedas finished 3-for-4 while Josh Day and Trevor Austin added two-hit nights at the top of the lineup. Tre Morris contributed to the onslaught with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning.
On the mound, Nathan Landry (3-2) earned the win in a bullpen game for the Tigers with three scoreless innings in his start. The lefty struck out four while surrendering just one hit and one walk.
Kansas (10-17) got five of its six RBI off the bat of Nolan Metcalf who homered twice in the game.
IMPACT INNING
With a 3-0 lead, Mizzou piled on with a four-run second inning. De Sedas opened the frame with a double to right field before Day legged out an infield single to put runners on the corners. Austin plated the first run of the inning with a double of his own to make it 4-0. Luke Mann followed with an RBI single before another run scored on a double play to extend the advantage to 6-0.
That's when Leum stepped to the plate and launched a rocket to center field for his 12th RBI in his last five games. The seven-run lead proved more than enough as Mizzou cruised to the 14-6 win.
