Mizzou sets program record for runs in an SEC game
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Every Missouri baseball starter had a hit, scored a run and recorded an RBI in a record-setting 19-8 win over Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium. The 19 runs are the most in an SEC game in program history.
Mizzou (23-17, 6-14 SEC) rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the first thanks to a grand slam off the bat of Fox Leum. The blast started a 17-hit onslaught as the Tigers scored in each of the first six innings to roll to the series-evening victory.
Sophomore Ross Lovich produced a career day with a pair of home runs and four RBI to lead the Tigers. He finished 3-for-5 at the plate, one-of-six Mizzou players with multi-hit days.
On the mound, Spencer Miles (3-4) minimized early damage from Mississippi State (25-19, 9-11 SEC) to earn the win. He worked five innings, allowing five runs on a windy day at Taylor Stadium.
IMPACT INNING
Mizzou sent 14 men to the plate in a nine-run sixth inning to punctuate the blowout win. Lovich sparked the frame with a two-run homer to make it 12-6 Tigers. Three-straight singles ended with a Nander De Sedas RBI knock before Trevor Austin lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 14-6. Josh Day followed with an RBI single and Torin Montgomery added an RBI double to build the lead to 10. Ty Wilmsmeyer picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk before Mike Coletta capped the frame with a two-run single.

FROM THE SKIP
Coach Bieser on the series opener…
"Big win for this ballclub to bounce back from last night. We kind of flipped the script and played their game and the guys came out and really grinded-out at-bats. When you look back at this game, that job that Spencer Miles did in the first inning of damage control - and it would have been easy as a pitcher to kind of fold because nothing was going his way, balls were finding holes – just pitching out of that and limiting that damage allowed us to get back in there in the bottom of the first and jump on that lead with Fox's blow.
"That's the way you have to play this game with the conditions. We understand the conditions, there's going to be a lot of runs scored and the way it looks, we're probably gonna have the same conditions tomorrow, so we've got to come out with that same type of attitude."
UP NEXT
Mizzou and Mississippi State wrap the series with a 2 p.m. first pitch on Sunday afternoon. The game will air on SEC Network.
