Tennis Prepares for No. 43 Kentucky in Next SEC Matchup

LEXINGTON, KY – The University of Missouri (5-9, 0-1 SEC) is slated to face its next ranked SEC opponent, No. 43 University of Kentucky (11-3, 0-2 SEC), on Friday, March 11.
SEC Season Begins
While the Tigers lost their SEC opening match to No. 58 University of Arkansas, the team fought for the final two points. Arkansas clinched the match and held a 5-0 lead with two singles matches left in competition. Bronte Murgett put Mizzou on the board with a third set win over Tatum Rice, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3). Gabriela Martinez followed suit with her own third set victory against Laura Rijkers, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. Despite the outcome, the perseverance of this team is something to note as SEC play continues.
Kentucky Breakdown
The Wildcats have won 78.6 percent of their matches heading into competition against the Tigers. The majority of the team's contests have been played at home where Kentucky holds a 10-1 record. In the ITA rankings, Kentucky junior Carlota Molina checked in at No. 108 and in doubles, Molina and Elizabeth Stevens were slated No. 69.
In conference play, the Wildcats are 0-2. The team kicked off SEC play against No. 41 Alabama, where they were swept, 0-4. Kentucky continued competition at No. 11 Auburn, losing 1-6. The match against Mizzou will be its first home SEC battle of the season.
