Mizzou outhits Razorbacks, but late homer proves the difference
COLUMBIA, Mo. – In a back-and-forth affair, No. 3 Arkansas used a two-run home run off the bat of Braydon Webb in the eighth inning to take a 7-5 victory over Missouri on Friday night at Taylor Stadium.
Mizzou (12-6, 0-4 SEC) twice fought back to tie the game after Arkansas (17-3, 4-0 SEC) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first. Junior Torin Montgomery cut the deficit in half with his 10th first-inning RBI of the year. The Tigers would draw level at 3-3 in the third with a two-run single from senior Josh Day.
After Arkansas rebuilt a two-run advantage, the Tigers clawed even in the seventh on a Carlos Peña RBI single. Peña and Montgomery led the Tigers with 3-for-5 nights at the plate.
On the mound, junior Spencer Miles allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Nathan Landry (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over two innings. The left-hander struck out five and did not issue a walk, but surrendered the go-ahead homer in the eighth.
IMPACT INNING
After Mizzou drew level in the bottom of the seventh, Arkansas scored twice in the eighth to take the late win. Jalen Battles singled before Webb delivered the game-winning blow, launching a two-run home run to right center to break the deadlock.

FROM THE SKIP
Coach Bieser on a tight game in the series opener…
"We left some plays on the field and it was just the execution of a couple plays that's probably the difference in this game. We are a little young and inexperienced in some areas and we've just got to continue to teach the game and get guys to understand how to execute a few of those. It's always the ones that you don't get that you're a little upset with, but I thought they did a pretty good job executing some things today as well."
UP NEXT
Mizzou and Arkansas continue the series on Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch. The game will air on SEC Network.
