Box Score NASHVILLE – University of Missouri baseball saw No. 4 Vanderbilt score four runs in the first inning and never let up as the Commodores took a 15-2 victory in the SEC opener on Friday at Hawkins Field.
Mizzou (12-3, 0-1 SEC) starting pitcher Spencer Miles (2-1) was greeted rudely as Enrique Bradfield, Jr. jumped the first pitch for a leadoff home run. The Commodores (15-2, 1-0 SEC) went on to score four in the first and three more in the third to tag Miles for seven runs.
At the plate, junior Luke Mann got the Tigers on the board with a solo home run in the top of the fourth. Senior shortstop Josh Day added a solo shot in the sixth, an opposite field blast which cleared the right field bleachers and left the stadium.
For Vanderbilt, starter Chris McElvain (3-0) went six innings with eight strikeouts to earn the win. He allowed two runs, both on solo homers.
IMPACT INNING
Bradfield, Jr.'s first-pitch homer sparked a four-run first as the Commodores ambushed the Tigers out of the gate. Gavin Casas added an RBI single and Tate Kolwyck roped a two-out, two-run double off the center field wall to give Vandy the early edge.
The four runs proved enough for the Commodores, who would tack on runs in five more innings to run away in the SEC opener.
