Tigers Unable to Create Momentum Against No. 39 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, TN – The University of Missouri (6-10, 1-2 SEC) was unable to swing another late match comeback against No. 39 Vanderbilt (9-4, 1-3 SEC) on Sunday afternoon.
Bronte Murgett and Emelie Schwarte snagged a doubles win over Anessa Lee and Holly Staff, 6-3, but the remaining Vanderbilt duos took hold of the doubles point shortly after. Murgett continued her fight in singles play against No. 46 Lee. Her quick reflexes on the court won her the match, 6-3, 6-2.
Ellie Wright came close in her match against Yufei Long, forcing a third set after winning the second set, 7-5. Wright forced the game down to the final two points, but was unable to convert as Vanderbilt had already clinched the match.
"An overall solid weekend behind us. Being able to go one win and one loss in the SEC each week is tough. Today we fell a little short on some courts and will continue the high value adjustments we made before the weekend began" said assistant coach Kat Adamovic. "You have to give a shout out to Bronte who keeps dominating in singles and is on a nine match winning streak and is now 3-0 in the SEC. We have to put this weekend behind us, get to work, learn from our mistakes and get ready for Florida and South Carolina. Excited for our first home stand of the SEC season and time to show our fans what we are capable of this season!"
The Tigers return to Columbia for their first home SEC matches of the season. Mizzou will play No. 15 Florida on Friday, March 18, and No. 59 South Carolina on Sunday, March 20.
