
Tigers Lose to No. 16 Florida

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri (6-11, 1-3 SEC) lost to No. 16 Florida (11-4, 3-2 SEC) in the team's first home SEC match of the season on Friday afternoon, 1-6.
The Tigers began the match against No. 16 Florida disadvantaged, forfeiting both one doubles match as well as one singles match. The Gators only had to win one doubles match in order to clinch the point and be up 2-0.
Ellie Wright rallied for Mizzou and put the Tigers on the board with her victory over Emma Shelton, 6-2, 6-2. Wright remained calm and collected, using her experience as a graduate student to win the match. Bronte Murgett put up a fight against No. 32 McCartney Kessler, but dropped the match, 6-2, 6-2. Elys Ventura was in a similar position in her competition against No. 55 Marlee Zein, nearly winning the first set, but unable to fend off Zein's comeback, 6-4, 6-1.
Mizzou has one more home match against No. 45 South Carolina on Sunday, March 20, at 10 a.m. The pink match will feature free pink t-shirts and breakfast burritos in honor of breast cancer awareness.
