Junior Brianne Bolden led the way, individually placing in second
BOCA RATON, FLA. – The University of Missouri's women's golf team showcased a strong spring debut after claiming a top-5 team finish at the FAU Paradise Invitational. The Tigers finished in fifth place with an 8-under 856 which was anchored by their second-round team score of a 7-under 281, both of which were season-low team scores. In the end, they trailed fellow SEC powerhouses, Florida, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State, along with South Florida down the stretch within the 15-team field. Three Tigers finished in the top-25 with junior Brianne Bolden leading the way, ultimately tying for second overall.
Bolden's standout performance started in the first round where she carded a 2-under 70 to break into the top-10. Her climb up the leaderboard didn't stop there as she went on to fire a pair of 5-under 67s to set her new career-low round score. This marks the first time that she carded all three rounds under-par in an event. Bolden's career record-breaking showing led her to secure her first career top-5 finish with her also career-best 54-hole event score of a 12-under 204.
"I've worked so hard on my mental game to get to this point. A calm heart and a lot of patience allowed me to wait for the birdies to drop. I never got ahead of myself and took every round hole by hole. I was able to swing freely and have fun playing in Florida," said Bolden.
Junior Sophia Yoemans and sophomore Emily Staples also took their career records to new heights as both fired 3-under 69 scores in the second round, which set a new career 18-hole score for Staples. Yoemans started with an even-par 72 and finished with a 1-over 73 to place 20th with a 2-under 214. Staples snagged an additional round under-par in the beginning with a 2-under 70 and wrapped up with a 4-over 76 to claim her best finish yet at T-21 with a 1-under 215. This marks both Tigers' first 54-hole event under-par in their career.
Rounding out the Black and Gold team score was fifth-year Noelle Beijer whose play was highlighted by her final round score of a 1-over 73. She closed out the tournament with a 7-over 223 tied for 55th place. Lastly, senior Keagan Dunn finished with an 18-over 234 at T-76.
HEAR FROM HEAD COACH PRIESMEYER
Overall thoughts…
"We were really happy with our play this week. We may have lost a few shots on our finish today but reviewing the entire event we have a lot of positives to build on for the FSU Match-Up tournament coming up. Our ball striking was pretty solid, especially coming down here & playing off the tight Bermuda lies. We will look through our stats when we get home & find those detailed areas of their game to clean up for the next event."
On Brianne Bolden's Performance…
"Bri was so good this week. Her ball striking was the best we have ever seen. She was throwing darts & her putter caught fire. So happy for her & the hard work she has put into her game."
UP NEXT: The Tigers have a week off before returning back to Florida for action in Tallahassee for the annually held FSU Match-Up from Feb. 25-27.
