IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Missouri (2-4) lost a close duel against the University of Iowa (4-1), 2-5, on Tuesday afternoon.

In doubles play, Bronte Murgett and Gabriela Martinez snagged their second win of the season against Samantha Gillas and Marisa Schmidt, 6-3. Ellie Wright and Romary Cardenas clinched the doubles point for Mizzou shortly after, taking down Michelle Bacalla and Barbora Pokorna, 6-3.

Wright had total control of her singles match and continued to earn her first singles win of the season over Pokorna, 7-5, 6-3.

Murgett paced No. 118 Schmidt through the entire match, but ultimately couldn't overcome Schmidt's momentum. Vazquez made a second set comeback and forced a third set against Samantha Gillas, 6-3, but was unsuccessful in the final set.

Martinez had a similar second set response, downing Samantha Mannix, 6-4. The third set went to the final point, but Mannix took the win.

"There is no such thing as a good loss. We are building and the players and the staff have to execute in crucial situations." said coach Chris Wootton. "We will continue to fight for every inch, every day, until we win! We will come home ready to analyze, focus and help each other learn and conquer."

The Tigers return to Columbia for their first home matches of the year against Southeast Missouri State and the University of Central Arkansas. Mizzou will play SEMO on Friday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. and Central Arkansas on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. in the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
