
Tennis to Compete in First Pair of Home Matches this Weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. – After four straight road matches, the University of Missouri (2-4) hosts its first two home games this season against Southeast Missouri State (1-2) on Friday, Feb. 18, and the University of Central Arkansas (5-3) on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Insight from Iowa
Mizzou opened its last match against Iowa with more momentum than previous competitions. Ellie Wright put up a strong performance against the Hawkeyes, winning her doubles match with Romary Cardenas as well as her singles match against Michelle Bacalla. Gabriela Martinez and Bronte Murgett snatched a second doubles win to secure the Tigers' first point of the season.
Martinez made a last-minute second set comeback in singles play against Samantha Mannix and took the third set down to its final point. Murgett faced No. 118 Marisa Schmidt and held her own but dropped both games, 6-4, 6-4.
SEMO and Central Arkansas This Season
Southeast Missouri State was voted the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference preseason favorites. The team began its season with back-to-back losses against SEC opponent Kentucky. The Redhawks had their next two matches postponed, but won their most recent competition against Missouri State, 6-1. The Tigers boast a 9-0 record against SEMO, defeating them 4-0 in their last match. Mizzou holds a 4-0 record over Central Arkansas, winning 4-0 in their last matchup back in 2020. The Bears are currently riding a three-game win streak, taking down Arkansas State, Arkansas Tech and Samford University all within a week.
Missouri is set to compete against SEMO this Friday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m. The team's second match against Central Arkansas will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played indoors at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
