Mizzou Runs Past Houston Christian, 105-69

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri men's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a dominant showcase against Houston Christian Saturday, posting a 105-69 victory in front of 7,610 fans at Mizzou Arena. With the win, the Tigers continue their undefeated ways with a 7-0 record, while the Huskies fall to 1-6.

Graduate DeAndre Gholston led the way with a season-high 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Senior Kobe Brown, senior Noah Carter and reigning SEC Player of the Week D'Moi Hodge joined Gholston in double figures with 19, 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the Tigers eclipsed the century mark for the second time this season.

Carter and graduate student Tre Gomillion both chipped in a game-high five assists as the Tigers eclipsed 20 helpers for the seventh-straight game with their 28 total assists representing a season high.

The Tigers claimed the lead on their opening possession and blitzed the Huskies on a 16-0 run to open the game. Carter collected an offensive rebound and scored the putback layup to put the Tigers on the board first, then Brown, Hodge and Gholston all buried 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to bring Mizzou's lead to double digits less than four minutes in.

Overall, Mizzou scored on its first nine possessions and assisted on eight of those baskets. The Tigers then pushed their lead to 25-3 and HCU would never pull closer than 14 the rest of the game. Gholston scored MU's final 14 points of the half to extend the Mizzou advantage to 24 at the break, 54-30.

Mizzou's 54 first-half points are the most the team has scored in a half this season, while shooting 61.3 percent from the field in the process. Gholston also had 19 first-half points as he eclipsed his season high of 13 in the first 20 minutes of action.

The Tigers cruised to the victory during the second stanza, adding another 51 points for the 105-69 final score. Mizzou finished the game by shooting a season-best 64.2 percent in the winning effort – its highest tally in five years.

The defense was also a force to be reckoned with and pestered the Huskies all game long. Entering the contest ranked second nationally in steals per game, Mizzou picked up 16 steals to tie its season high while forcing 23 HCU turnovers. In addition, the Tigers laid their bodies on the line to protect the hoop, drawing three charges and accruing five blocks on the afternoon.
