
Women's Basketball Falls to No. 11 Virginia Tech

NASSAU, Bahamas – The University of Missouri women's basketball team took its first loss of the 2022-23 season in a hard-fought battle against No. 11 Virginia Tech, 73-57. The bout concluded the Tigers' trip to the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship.
The Tigers opened with an efficient scoring effort in the first quarter, and the balanced attack put Mizzou in front, 28-26 at the halftime break. Graduate guard Haley Troup carried the unit with 10 first-half points, while the Tigers shot 54.5% from the field in the opening frame.
On the other end of the court, Mizzou held strong through the opening 20 minutes. The Hokies only shot a 30.3% clip in the first half and held reigning ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley to 3-10 from the field.
As the second half began, the Tigers couldn't continue their shooting prowess while Virginia Tech found its rhythm. The Hokies took the lead early in the third quarter and held an advantage throughout the second half
Mizzou fought back to bring the game within single digits in the fourth quarter, as Troup buried a pair of threes to cut the deficit to cut the lead to nine with 8:36 remaining. Despite the late charge, the Hokies were able to hold on for the victory.
TOP TIGERS
- Troup led all scorers and tied her career high with 21 points, shooting 6-12 from the field and 4-7 from 3-point land.
- Freshman guard Ashton Judd continued her strong freshman campaign with seven points behind a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the charity stripe.
- Senior forward Hayley Frank totaled eight points, four rebounds and two assists in the contest.
