Women’s Basketball Continues Winning Streak, Tops Western Kentucky

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri women's basketball team clinched its fourth consecutive win on Monday night, defeating Western Kentucky, 65-47, at Mizzou Arena.

Senior Lauren Hansen (Long Island, NY) led the charge after bouncing back from a scoreless first half. Hansen was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 4-for-5 overall in the third quarter, dropping 13 points. She finished with 17 points to tie her season-high. She also distributed the ball throughout the contest, recording a career-high five assists.

Following suit, guard Haley Troup (Gadsden, Ala.) shot a perfect 3-for-3 from deep in the first quarter, knocking down a total of 13 points in the contest to claim a new season-high. She also grabbed three rebounds and was 4-for-4 from the line.

Rounding out the offense was Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) who posted double-digit points (12) for the second consecutive game, and freshman Ashton Judd (West Plains, Mo.) who added nine.

Juniors Sara-Rose Smith (Victoria, Australia) and Jayla Kelly (Chesterfield, Mo.) led Missouri on the defensive end. Smith posted a team-high rebounding total for the third game this year, racking up a total of 12 to tie her season-high, while Kelly grabbed a career-best 7.

The Tigers ended the second half 45.5% from the floor and were a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe.

TURNING POINT

Leading by seven at the break, Missouri went on a 17-2 run in the third quarter and pushed its advantage to 19 points, setting the game reach for the Lady Toppers. The offensive charge was led by Hansen who knocked down eight points on Mizzou's first three consecutive possessions of the half. She ended the quarter with 13 points.

TOP TIGERS

  • Lauren Hansen tallied 17 points, all of which came from the second half, and added a career record of five assists. She has posted double-digit points in three consecutive games.
  • Haley Troup knocked down a season-high 13 points, nine of which were in the first half where she went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
  • Hayley Frank posted double-digit points (12) in back-to-back games.
  • Sara-Rose Smith led the team in rebounds for the third game this season, racking up a total of 12 to tie her season-high.
  • Jayla Kelly dominated the boards, collecting a career-high seven rebounds.

UP NEXT

The Tigers will compete in their fourth consecutive game at home on Thursday, Nov. 17 against UT-Martin in Mizzou Arena. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on SECN+.
