KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Missouri wrestling team heads to Kansas City to host the Tiger Style Invite Saturday, Nov. 12 at Staley High School. Missouri will be joined by Cal-Poly, Drexel, Illinois, Little Rock and Maryland. The action will begin at 9 a.m., with finals slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
— STARTING OFF STRONG — Missouri wrestling began the 2022-23 season with a commanding 55-0 win over Lindenwood in the Dual on the Diamond. Six-of-nine wrestlers earned falls in the dual, and all nine matches ended with bonus point victories.
— LIGHT WORK — Mizzou's redshirt junior Zach Elam set a record for the fastest pin in program history. In his 285-pound matchup, Elam made quick work of his opponent in nine seconds. This broke Rick Romeo's record of 13 seconds which had stood since 1982.
— REIGNING, DEFENDING, UNDISPUTED — Defending national champion sophomore Keegan O'Toole won a 16-5 major decision in his 165-pound match, extending his win streak to 30 consecutive bouts dating back to the 2021 NCAA Championships. O'Toole is the top-ranked 165-pounder by all major publications and is ranked sixth by FloWrestling on the pound-for-pound list.
— LION TAMERS — Missouri's victory over Lindenwood was dominant. It was the first time the Tigers have shut out an opponent since January 23, 2021, in a 46-0 win over Ohio. 55 points also marked the highest Tiger point total since the 2017 season when Mizzou scored 56 against Central Missouri.
Furthermore, Mizzou held Lindenwood scoreless for the first time since 2010, which was another shutout by the Tigers.
— WINNING IN STYLE — With all 10 scheduled matches completed against Lindenwood, Mizzou scored its largest margin of victory without forfeits since at least 1980, when the Tigers defeated Shippensburg State.
— DARTH MAULLER — Redshirt junior Brock Mauller returned to the mat to represent the Black and Gold after taking 2021-22 as a redshirt year. The Columbia, Mo. native started the new campaign by securing a win via fall in 4:14 in his 149-pound contest.
— HOMECOMING KING — With the Tiger Style Invite taking place at Staley High School, redshirt junior Zach Elam will be returning to the gym he called home for his high school career. The redshirt junior won three Class 4 Missouri State Wrestling Championships and made the state finals all four years he wrestled for the Falcons.
— WHOLE LOT OF CASSATT — Redshirt freshman Jesse Cassatt made his debut for Mizzou as an attached competitor at the Dual on the Diamond event. The redshirt freshman won via fall in 2:20 in his 197-pound match.
— STACKED — Mizzou returns eight of nine NCAA Qualifiers from the 2021-22 season, led by the 165-pound NCAA National Champion, Keegan O'Toole. The Tigers have three two-time NCAA All-Americans in O'Toole, Rocky Elam and Brock Mauller. The Tigers also return Noah Surtin (125), Allan Hart (141), Jarrett Jacques (157), Peyton Mocco (174) and Zach Elam (285) from last year's tournament lineup.
With nine wrestlers ranked in the top 20 of their weight class and six in the top 10, Missouri is looking stacked for the 2022-23 season.
— MILESTONE WATCH — Redshirt junior Brock Mauller enters the season as the team's winningest active wrestler. At 88 career wins, Mauller has the chance to become the 29th Tiger to enter the exclusive 100-Win Club.
— RETURN TO KC — The Tiger Style Invite heads to Kansas City. The invite is set to be hosted at Staley High School beginning at 9 a.m. The invite marks the return of Mizzou to Kansas City for the first time since Dec. 20, 2018 when the Tiger defeated Virginia, 23-21.
Sixth-ranked Mizzou entered the final bout of the dual trailing 21-17. Fourth-ranked 174-pounder Daniel Lewis earned a pin 1:14 into the opening period to secure the come-from-behind 23-21 win. The victory also moved the Tigers' winning streak to 26 consecutive duals.
— GO WITH THE FLO — Mizzou wrestling will be on FloWreslting for the 2022-23 season. Fans can find all home duals on the streaming platform, as well as the Tiger Style Invite, Nov. 12.
— UP NEXT — The Tigers will head to the desert following the Tiger Style Invite to face off against No. 6 Arizona State Thursday, Nov. 17 in Tempe, Ariz. The dual is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. CT inside Mullett Arena.
