Sinclair captures program top-10 mark in men's 1500m
DES MOINES, Iowa — Mizzou Track & Field closed out day two of competition at the 111th edition of the Drake Relays, capturing two coveted white flags in the women's 400m hurdles and men's discus. One Tiger also notched a program top-10 mark in the men's 1500m.
Notable Finishes
Sophomore Morgan O'Neal (Sylacauga, Ala.) notched Mizzou's first win of the day, as she placed first in the women's 400m hurdles in a time of 1:00.41. O'Neal is the first female to win the 400m hurdles at the Drake Relays in school history.
In the men's discus, redshirt freshman Mitch Weber (Saint Clair, Minn.) claimed the title with a mark of 60.91m (199-1), the Tiger's second win of the day. Weber currently ranks third in the nation with his personal best throw of 60.91m (200-1).
Freshman William Sinclair (Tauwhere, New Zealand) ran a 3:43.19 in the men's 1500m race, finishing in ninth place. With the time, Sinclair now holds the fifth fastest mark in program history.
Quotables
Morgan O'Neal on his performance in the 400m hurdles… "Execution is key. As long as I'm executing well in certain parts of the race, I'll consider it a win. I know that fast time will come when it's time to come, so I'm really just trusting the process."
Mitch Weber on his performance in the discus… "It's an honor to be a part of such a successful organization in the discus throw. To chase after the school record of 61.52m, I feel like I'm right around the corner of doing some big things, and I'm really excited for the next couple of meets."
Up Next
The Tigers will wrap up the competition at the Drake Relays tomorrow, beginning with the women's hammer throw at 12:45 p.m. CT. The women's javelin and 4x400m relays will follow to close out the meet.
