COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (11-23, 4-11 SEC) returns to Taylor Stadium for a three-game SEC series against Georgia (24-12, 7-8 SEC) beginning Friday, April 23.
Friday's series opener is scheduled for a 4 p.m. CT first pitch on SEC Network+. Saturday features a 4 p.m. start on SEC Network and the series concludes Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch on SEC Network+.
Fans can also tune-in to KTGR (105.1 FM, 100.5 FM, 1580 AM) to catch the Tigers throughout the entire 2021 season with Tex Little and Matt Michaels on the call.
The matchup
• Mizzou trails the all-time series against Georgia 13-8. All 21 meetings have come in the SEC era for Mizzou.
• Georgia has swept each of the past two series meetings (2018 & 2019). Mizzou's last win came in Athens in 2017 when the Tigers earned a 6-1 victory in the rubber match to take the series.
• The visiting team holds the edge in the series with Mizzou leading 7-5 in Athens and UGA leading 8-1 in Columbia.
HOLT RETURNS
• After suffering an injury in the fall, junior outfielder Josh Holt, Jr., missed the first 31 games of the season.
• Holt returned to the lineup at Florida, making a pinch-hitting appearance on Friday night before earning a start in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
• Holt went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in his start.
VIERLING POWER SURGE
• In three seasons at Mizzou, senior Mark Vierling had one home run to his name. In 2021, he's lifted four long balls including three in his last 10 games.
• Vierling is tied for the team lead with seven RBI in the past 10 contests.
• The second baseman has scored a team-leading 20 runs on the season.
MONTGOMERY STAYS HOT
• Sophomore Torin Montgomery continued his torrid run at the plate, extending his hitting streak to a season-long nine games.
• In that nine-game stretch, Montgomery is 14-for-33 with two homers and seven RBI. He's also added three doubles to his ledger.
• In the last 10 games Mizzou has played, Montgomery owns a team-best .424 batting average and a .513 OBP.
• His nine-game hitting streak is the longest by any Tiger this season.
• Montgomery slugged his team-leading fifth home run of the year in game three of the series at Florida.
