COLUMBIA, S.C. – Mizzou Baseball (11-17, 4-6 SEC) racked up its third consecutive conference win, defeating No. 11 South Carolina (19-9, 6-4 SEC) 7-2 on Friday night. The Tigers rallied behind five scoreless innings from graduate student Lukas Veinbergs to come back and take the series opener.
The Black and Gold went down early after the Gamecocks plated two runs in the second inning of starter Seth Halvorsen. The redshirt-sophomore would limit the damage to just the two-spot on his way to pitching four innings.
The momentum shifted when freshman Garrett Rice roped a three-run double into the gap to clear the bases in the fifth inning. The Tigers tacked on three more in the following inning off of a double from senior Brandt Belk and a two-run throwing error.
The four-run cushion was all Veinbergs would need to shut the South Carolina offense down, closing out the game behind stellar defensive efforts across the diamond.
