COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (8-14, 1-4 SEC) dropped the second game of its SEC home opening series against No. 1 Vanderbilt (18-3, 4-1 SEC), 11-3, Friday evening.
The Commodores jumped on the Tigers out of the gate, building a 7-0 lead in the first two innings. Vanderbilt starter Jack Leiter (6-0), coming off a no-hitter in his last outing, did not allow a hit in his seven innings of work.
Junior Tre Morris broke up Vanderbilt's combined no-hitter with a single to right-center field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Two batters later, sophomore Torin Montgomery launched a three-run blast to left field to put the Tigers on the board.
Redshirt sophomore Seth Halvorsen (2-1) took his first loss of the season on the mound. In his first SEC pitching appearance, sophomore Ty Wilmsmeyer tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts in relief.

Hear from the Skipper
Head coach Steve Bieser on breaking through in the ninth…
"To see our guys not give in, not wanting to be part of a no-hitter, Tre Morris coming through with that big hit and then seeing Torin jump on a pitch there after we got a break on a ground ball. I'm proud that we finished that last inning and that's what we talk about: playing nine full innings."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Wilmsmeyer picked up his first career strikeout in the top of the eighth inning. The sophomore allowed only one hit in his second-career pitching appearance.
-
Montgomery hit his third home run of the year and is now tied with Luke Mann for a team-high of 14 RBIs this season.
-
Morris' pinch-hit single in the ninth gave the catcher a knock in each of his last three appearances.
