The Tigers scored a season-tying 12 runs in the second game on Saturday
NORMAL, Ill. – Mizzou Baseball (6-10) split its doubleheader against Illinois State, losing the first game 10-1, and winning the second game 12-2. The Tigers rallied in the second game behind a perfect game at the plate from senior Brandt Belk and three Tigers with multiple RBIs.
In the first game of the twin billing, the Tigers tallied four hits against the Illinois State starter, who tossed a 7-inning complete game. Sophomore Torin Montgomery put Mizzou's sole on the board with two outs in the final frame, hitting a solo home run.
The Tigers got out to a hot start in the second game, putting up a four spot in the first inning. The flood gates continued to stay open as Mizzou plated at least one run in each of the first five innings.
Junior Mike Coletta recorded a season-high two hits and two RBIs in the win. His offensive performance was supplemented by senior Mark Vierling's sixth multi-hit game of the season.
The cushion was more than enough for redshirt sophomore Seth Halvorsen, who allowed just two hits over 5.0 innings. The righty also set a career high with seven strikeouts on the outing.
