Mizzou Baseball Wins High-Scoring Contest In Home Opener

The Tigers scored 12 runs against the Mavericks in the series opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (2-3) notched their first home win of the season against Nebraska-Omaha, winning the first game of the series 12-10 Friday evening.

The Tigers came out hot in the first inning scoring two runs, with one coming in on an error and another on an RBI single from fifth year Andrew Keefer. Mizzou had a strong starting performance by sophomore Spencer Miles, going six innings, with seven strikeouts and allowing no runs.


The majority of the runs in the game were scored in the back third of the game. The Tigers put four runs on the board in the fifth inning on a three-run triple from redshirt sophomore Luke Mann. In the seventh, Mizzou posted five runs with a two-run home run from junior Cameron Swanger followed by a two-run double from senior Jackson Lancaster


Freshman Zach Hise closed out the game for the Tigers, pitching 1.1 innings with one walk and two strikeouts, earning his second save on the year.

  • Senior Mark Vierling hit his first home run of the season with a solo shot in the third. That home run was also Vierling's first since his freshman campaign.

  • Fifth-year senior Andrew Keefer has reached base safely in every game this season after gathering a hit and three walks on the night.

Mizzou will face-off against Nebraska-Omaha and look to win the series with a double-header sweep. The first game of the Saturday double-header is at noon, to be followed by the second game. The final game will be at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.
