Mizzou Men’s Hoops Falls at Ole Miss, 80-59

Dru Smith led Mizzou with 17 points

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Men's Basketball fell on the road at Ole Miss, 80-59, on Wednesday night in Oxford, Mississippi. The Tigers suffered just their fourth loss of the season and fell to 13-4 on the campaign.  

Redshirt senior Dru Smith led Mizzou with 17 points, three assists and three steals, draining a season-high five 3-pointers behind 5-of-9 shooting beyond the arc. Smith has now scored double figures in nine consecutive games, the longest streak by a Tiger since Jordan Geist in 2018-19.

Javon Pickett added 10 points off the bench. Smith and Pickett were the lone Tigers in double figures.

Ole Miss shot 57 percent and won the battle on the glass, 34-19. The Rebels led by five at the break, and used a quick spurt to launch the second half to push ahead by double digits for good.

Turning Point

Ole Miss went on a 9-0 run to start the second half and push in front 51-37. Mizzou was held scoreless for the first three minutes of the final frame. That momentum swing proved to be enough as Mizzou could not pull within 10 the rest of the way.

Top Tigers

  • Dru Smith led Mizzou with a team-high 17 points. He hit five threes, and finished with three assists and three steals.  
  • Kobe Brown shot 4-for-6 from the field en route to nine points.
  • Javon Pickett hit a pair of triples and finished with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Game Notes

  • Dru Smith has scored in double figures in nine consecutive games. He's the first Tiger to string together nine such games since Jordan Geist in 2018-19
  • Dru matched his career-high with five 3-pointers.
  • Wednesday marked just the third loss in the last two years for Mizzou when Pickett reaches double figures.
