COLUMBIA, Mo. — Despite a season-high 19 points by Javon Pickett, the University of Missouri men's basketball team could not quiet No. 8 Kansas in Allen Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. The Jayhawks took the return of the HyVee Hoops Border Showdown, 102-65.
Pickett's 19 points came on 8-of-12 shooting including three rebounds and two assists. Sean Durugordon had his first career double-digit scoring effort, coming off the bench in the final six minutes to score 11 points. DaJuan Gordon also contributed double-digit efforts with 10 including five rebounds and a team-high three assists. As a team the Tigers shot 43.6 percent from the floor.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou kept the game within single digits, 36-25, through the first 15 minutes of the game after Javon Pickett started the game a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor. Kansas took advantage on several personal fouls that led to Mizzou starters on the bench, ending the half on a 13-2 run that the Tigers could not come back from.
GAME NOTES
- Mizzou shot 50 percent from three in the first half and 42.3 percent from the floor.
- Trevon Brazile made the first two three-pointers of his career, totaling 10 points on the night. Brazile also had a pair of blocks.
- Mizzou won the points in the paint battle with 38-32.
- Kobe Brown had a team-high six rebounds.
- Mizzou's last win in Allen Fieldhouse came in 1999 as the series moves to 174-95.
- 15 of Pickett's 19 points came in the first half.
